Strong effort, amazing to look at, but he fell in love with his footage - could've been half the length and you wouldn't have missed anything

Kar Wai Wong is doing what he does best here, which is generally mediating on film what love is.
While I thought this movie was great, it didn't have the same energy level some of his other films.

I just can't believe my eyes: this is such a beautiful film in the best asian-magnifique style. Kar-Wai and Yimou usually create breath-taking masterpieces that will look OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD in a big plasma TV but Kar-Wai, not as Yimou, creates heartbreaking, raw, cruel tales of human love and betrayal, of hate and lust, of extreme reality and being lost.
I felt so lonely after watching this that I'm still a little bit blue and with a weird urge to visit the Iguazu waterfalls.
Tony Leung proves once and for all why is he one of the top asian actors today (and ever) portraying the loneliness of his character as no one else could have done. Kar-Wai's use of music is absolutely haunting and the way Christopher Doyle paints the streets of Buenos Aires with light and red is extremely beautiful and captivating. He is one of the top cinematographers today along with Rodrigo Prieto, Dion Beebe and 'El Chivo' Lubezki.
Simply remarkable film of epic proportions but intimistic nature.

Happy Together is a really good drama movie with an interesting story and excellent direction. Kair Wai Wong caprtured in this film everything about the love.

    A worth of watch.

terribly sad, deep, disheartening... tony leung -that wonderful actor- is even more handsome here than in 'in the mood for love'; so desolated, knowing they both are going to loose all they had because actually there were anything. between tangos for tourists in buenos aires, small and sad shared rooms and raw meetings, the loneliness, the remembering of what is lost -and found-, the unsuccessful searches in advance end configuring the life of all the lost souls, far away from anywhere, and with no home to return to.

There's no doubt in my mind that Wong kar-wei is a master filmmaker. Happy Together is the best example of that I can think of. This is a beautiful love story in every single way possible. Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung Chiu Wai are nothing short of remarkable. Forget the idiots who won't see this film because of the content and let yourself be absorbed by this heartbreaking film.

Garishly beautiful but frustratingly same-y WKW chamber piece. Happy Together has hardly a whisper of plot and I found myself drifting. Felt like a two hour Suntory ad.

Music and waterfall sequence were cool.

Right after i watched this movie, i couldnt say anything...i didnt have any -enough said- words for this movie because watching this movie is like riding on a love ride, just let it jerk you every which way is vexing but is what making it a memorable one. At the end, you'd feel overwhelmed listening to Frank Zappa's Happy Together...and Buenos Aires wouldnt be just a city anymore.

one of the saddest, therefore greatest, love stories ever told. if you don't cry in the scene wherein tony cooked leslie a meal, strangle yourself. you have no right to breathe. gay or straight, if you've ever felt that you'd want to kill the one you so love... this film is for you.

only wong kar wai movie that doesn't look and feel like a perfume commercial. also, bonus points for being the only gay movie that's about more than just straight people's intolerance

Happy Together is powerful film about the process of letting go of a doomed relationship as well as loniness and dislocation. The way Wong portrays the deterioriating relationship between the male leads allows their relationship to transcend all gender. This isn't a "gay movie" as people tend to label such movies dealing with such subjects often tend to, but simply a film about the relationship between two individuals who happen to be gay. This is how such subject matters should be portrayed, not like some lame coming out story or in anyway that focuses on the sexuality instead of the relationship itself. Stylistically it is close to that of CE and FA but also hints at his later films. Chris Doyle's experimental cinematography uses black and white film stock, oversaturation of color, wide angle lenses incredibly to make one of the most visually stunning pictures ever. The lighting and editing are so impressive. The eclectic soundtrack mixes music from il maestro Astor Piazzolla, Caetano Veloso, and Frank Zappa to generate such a haunting mood. Tony Leung's performance might be his best that I've seen of him, and that really says a lot about such a world class actor. When I first saw it, I liked it but felt it was not among his best works, recently I realized how honestly and sincerely it portrays a deteriorating relationship. This is Wong's most mature film, yet it is able to retain the brashness and youth of his earlier films, something that In the Mood for Love does not have.

A little less gratuitous cocks and fannies, a little more drama. The film is called "Happy Together" - that means THEY CERTAINLY DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU! Guhh!

maybe i am just too shallow to appreciate the art of the movies directed by Wong Ka Wai. This is one of his work which, at least, let me see concretely what the whole picture looks like.

first off, just get over the fact that it's two guys in love with each other. just grow the fuck up about it. this is a beautiful tragic romance filmed in such a great down and dirty style that i could not help but love it from scene one.

I'm actually not happy with what the critics say on Leslie Cheung. I've seen almost all Leslie Cheung movies and he's always do his best in every of his movies. By hearing what the critics say that he's actually a gay so this movie is just a normal scene to him, so not much of his acting skills. Its so unfair to him, no doubt i agree Tony Leung has acted fantasticlly in this movie but i think Leslie deserves his applause. So what if he's a gay??? I think Golden Horse Awards are also biase base on this point to give the award to Leslie instead they give to Tony. I think Leslie deserves more than that. We'll not have chance to see him act anymore, what a pity. This is for you all Leslie's Fans.

While not as powerful as 2046 and especially Fa Yeung Nin Wa, Happy Together is an ode to love, passion and beauty. This film is visually perfect ands tells a sad, melancholic and beautiful story.

SO GOOD! I can't describe it. Vivid colours, one-of-a-kind editing, great story, soundtrack...everything comes together to give this story a universal appeal and a truly visceral and lingering footprint.

This is a lyrical and boldly experimental piece of cinema, with some of the most beautiful moments I've seen in the cinema in awhile
