Plot:
Well, what can I say about The Decalogue...
The only thing coming to my mind is that it isn't for me. I watched all ten episodes, of course, but it just didn't conquered my heart and my feelings. I can agree to say that Kieslowski was an excellent director, some of the shots in The Decalogue were simply amazing. But, I don?t know, maybe the stories didn?t interest me, except for two or three that were incredible.
Ten commandments, ten one hour films, ten masterpieces, collectively the most powerful film anthology ever made.
from mistake , in the movie , put as actor the director and have no informations about the director who is of course KIESLOFSKY
An interesting inspection of some of the innumerable shades of gray that contain our lives. Generally speaking, the series may be accused of being suspended in monotone from time to time and being almost entirely devoid of humor. It could be argued too that the situations depicted here don't leave much room for humor, though I often find the best films to verify that ugly situations most always contain undertones of blaring absurdity. On the other hand, there is a relatively consistent flow of wonderful moments here, along with a number of brilliant ones. The endings, with a only few exceptions, are particularly strong. I found 1, 5, 6, 7 and 9 to be the strongest, but I would recommend the whole series to anyone who has the patience for it. While it may not be as divine as some have claimed, it is frequently both honest and powerful.
A ten hour epic series exploring the ten commandments and how they still may or may not apply to contemporary society. Two of the best chapters were released as full-length features. All in all, an amazing achievement in cinema.
The Decalogue is without doubt a monument of movie history. The ten films are apparently based on the ten commandments, but this relationship is tentative. Kieslowski himself commented that "the films should be influenced by the individual Commandments to the same degree that the Commandments influence our daily lives". The amazing thing about them is that they are much more than a series of abstract cinematic emblems. Assisted by superlative acting, they acquire each their own depth, their own real personalities and complex dilemmas. Kieslowski presents a cinematic view of morality that is about as sophisticated as it gets. A grand achievement of one of the great film-makers of the twentieth century.
Stunning. The films in the Decalogue are less polished than Trois Couleurs, but the gritty scenes of Poland and the enduring Biblical themes make this a series difficult to forget.
Kieslowski left us way too soon. But he did leave behind a handful of achievements that place him at the forefront of filmmakers of the last quarter of the 20th century. The Three Colors movies and The Double Life of Veronique - the movies for which he is probably best known - would be enough to ensure his reputation, but is this film - or ten films, if you wish - that elevate him.
While the movies are based upon the Ten Commandments, they are not simple morality tales and illustrations. Kieslowski and his co-writer, Krzysztof Piesiewicz, create meditations that connect both intellectually and emotionally with the commandments instead. They explore the commandments' themes with the head and the heart. One great example is the first movie, in which a parent and his child use a computer to predict the freezing rate of a pond. Casting the computer and human knowledge as false Gods is not a new or unique idea, but in Kieslowski's hands, the idea expands and fills not only the mind but the heart. Man, I wish I had the vocabulary to express what moves in me every time I watch any one of these films.
There are some `movies' that are hard to describe. `Dekalog' is one. It's not really a movie. It is a ten part made-for-TV mini series. Don't remember seeing `Dekalog' when it was first shown on TV? Neither do I. `Dekalog' was made for made for Polish TV in 1987 by Krzysztof Kieslowski (`Blue', `White', `Red' and `Double Life Veronique'). Each segment of `Dekalog' is about one hour and is thematically driven by one of the 10 Commandments. All the stories take place in the same high rise apartment in Warsaw. The characters in each of the stories don't necessarily overlap, yet we see some of the characters from one story walk through another. This lack of overlap is also true of the stories and the commandments. Even knowing which commandment was the basis for a story, I couldn't always see a direct correlation. It's as if Kieslowski and his co-writer Krzysztof Piesiewicz view the 10 Commandments as a ruler to measure one's actions, a curb to provide bounds for one's choices or maybe a mirror to reflect on one's life. This reflective view of the commandments comes through in each of the stories. In "I Am the Lord Our God" a young boy and his father rely on a computer to decide whether or not it's safe to go out on the ice. "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" is about a young boy who spies on and stalks the woman next door. Magda, his neighbor, is free and easy. And when she finds out about the young voyeur, she sets out prove there is no such things as love. Commandment by commandment Kieslowski provides us our own voyeuristic moment into the lives of the people in this one Warsaw apartment. This is truly a great movie. Buy a copy and watch the stories with another movie fan. Dekalog contains 10 stories that you'll want to talk about long after you've watched them.
This is Krzysztof Kieslowski's magnum opus. A series of ten episodes, each loosely associated with one of the Ten Commandments, each filled with complex moral dilemmas.

Oui.
This set of films can be variable, all of them are grey in both appearence and mood, but different films will strike different cords with people. I also tried to figure out which film related to which commandment, something I still have trouble with.
Kieslowski's finest achievement. Ten mini-masterpieces based on The Ten Commandments. Powerful universal stories about ordinary people directed by a master filmmaker...genius.
Kieslowski is the best realist in cinema. This series of films is beautiful. Easily the best achivement in foreign cinema that I've witnessed.
Oh gosh, don't even get me started on this 10 hour movie. Took me, what, 2 months to finish? It was literally an obligation. I had to take it back to the library and then lend it out again, just to finish it. 2 hour-long segments were worth watching - the others ranged from sub-par to painfully, painfully boring. Ugh.
this is about the 10 cmnandments ubt its not jus moralts. its all so good. who is that guy who doesn tspeak tho? u should se eit.
My #5 film of all time. a mammoth achievement and a very thought provoking study portrayal of the 10 commandments.
10 heavy, subtle and complex morality plays. Each is only 1 hour long and it's probably best to watch just one at once. In the same vein as the Three Colours movies.
